Cambridge Junction, Cambridge - 05/02/24
Miles Kane:
There are few names more synonymous with the UK indie scene than Miles Kane, and after watching last night's headline show at Cambridge Junction it is abundantly clear why. Monday night gig in Cambridge often proves to be a tough time to get audience reactions, but Kane swaggered into the sold-out room and was greeted with a roar as loud as I have ever heard from a Junction crowd
Miles often draws comparisons to the likes of Alex Turner or the Gallagher brothers, but in reality... there is only one Miles Kane. For a man of few words, he is as cool as you like, emitting a palpable confidence as he commands the stage, like it's the most natural thing in the world.
Having a solo career that is now in its second decade meant Miles Kane has more than enough songs to choose from, curating a setlist that perfectly blended hits from his early albums, with the newest bangers from last summer's album 'One Man Band'. The record was Kane's highest charting solo album to date, and this was reflected in the crowd response. Newer singles like 'Baggio' and 'The Best Is Yet to Come' received an equally raucous reception to classics like 'Inhaler" and 'Rearrange', testament to Miles' longevity through his writing
His vocals were on point, sounding near perfect to his records, but with that slight blissful rawness that only live music can bring. He is joined on stage by a live band as good as they come, made up of Ben Rose (Guitar), Nathan Sudders (Bass) and Liam Toon (Drums). The chemistry between the four of them radiates from the stage; You could easily be fooled into thinking you're watching a band who have been playing together for years.
The night ended with Miles leading the crowd through the ultimate indie singalong 'Don't Forget Who You Are'. This was the the perfect way to punctuate a night of high energy indie brilliance. Artists like this really are once in a generation
