The Sherlocks 'People Like Me & You: Intimate Tour'

The Six Six Bar, Cambridge - 19/07/23

The Sherlocks:

Thursday saw South-Yorkshire royalty The Sherlocks' take to the stage at The Six Six Bar to promote the bands highly anticipated new album People Like Me & You (August 11th). Support was one of indie music's hottest prospects, Cusp.

The band received rapturous applause from the capacity crowd of this brilliantly intimate venue as they took to the stage, before lead guitarist Alex Procter guided the band through the intro to 'Will You Be There?'. The Sherlocks have made a big name for themselves in the indie/alt-rock scene, and this opening song was more than enough proof to see why. Procter's flawless guitar work is combined with the brilliant basslines of Trent Jackson, and the upbeat drumming of Brandon Crook. Obviously no band are complete without their frontman, and Kiaran Crook is as good as they come. His live vocals were on point, one of many reasons he had the crowd in the palm of his hands throughout the entire set.

Their next song played was 'Magic Man', and indie anthem off the bands 2nd album 'Under Your Sky'. This song has received cult-like adoration throughout the bands fanbase, receiving huge singalongs on the chorus. It is always difficult following two popular songs with a newer one, but as the band began performing 'Sirens', the first single off their upcoming album, the crowd reaction did not drop at all, showing just how much this new music is speaking to audiences around the country.

An epic singalong-inducing cover of 'Sit Down' by James came next, with the 180- person strong crowd making enough noise for a thousand people. This wasn't however some cheap ploy by the band to force crowd reaction as following songs 'Escapade' and the title track of the new album 'People Like Me & You' received equally big reactions, proving this was just one of those brilliantly rare nights where everyone has joined forces to have the best time possible

Next up was my personal favourite 'NYC (Sing It Loud)', the 2019 song is the reason I discovered The Sherlocks and have been able to witness the band go from strength to strength. Being a band the size of The Sherlocks playing an intimate venue, whilst also trying to promote a new album, it would have been so easy to just play new music and still send the crowd home satisfied, but instead this set covered all three released albums, whilst also showcasing new music to create the perfect setlist to rival any bigger venue shows

The bands 2022 single Sorry' was played next, being followed by the title track of the band's 2017 debut album 'Live for the Moment' and 2021's 'City Lights'. The energy from the band radiated during these songs, it really seems that they are having the time of their life playing these intimate shows, whilst also supporting some brilliant grassroots venues.

This really did feel like you were just watching a group of best friends having a jam session on stage, the whole performance was so joyfully personable, and a cover of 'Dakota' by stereophonics continued this feeling. The band knocked both covers in their set out the park, being responded to by huge sing-alongs from the crowd who were having equally as much fun as the headliners.

Despite the performance moving towards its close, there were no sign of energy levels dropping. A high-octane performance of 'Falling' had everyone's moving, before the set's penultimate song 'Don't Let It Out was played. This song is the pick of the new album for me, an epic chorus is matched by high-energy verses that went down a treat in such an intimate venue and will no doubt cause brilliant chaos when the band tour bigger rooms later this year

The set closed as they often do with The Sherlocks, a rousing rendition of 'Chasing Shadows', providing the perfect end to a night that will live long in the memory
