Ten Tonnes:
After bursting onto the scene in the late 2010's with his 'Born to Lose' EP and self-titled album, Ten Tonnes (stage name of Ethan Barnett quickly established himself as an exciting prospect on the UK indie scene. However, it was upon the release of his second album 'Dancing, Alone' last summer where Ten Tonnes really cemented himself as an indie-mainstay; going on to smash a number of headline shows and festival slots. It is this success that makes seeing a bigger artist in such small venue feel so special - that's the beauty of Independent Venue Week. (Although please never forget that these venues need your support all year round!)
Walking onto the intimate stage at Cambridge's MASH venue, Ten Tonnes felt like a legitimate megastar. For an artist used to playing in venues much larger than MASH, and playing to festival crowds in the thousands, Ethan still played this gig like it was as important as any other he'd played. His humour and personality was shining throughout, interacting with the crowd on a personal level
This tour sees Ten Tonnes performing completely solo, with just his vocals and stripped back guitar. This raw style of performance means there is nowhere to hide, a daunting feat for most musicians, but Ethan seemed to thrive in this environment. His songwriting ability is up there with the best, and this sort of performance showcases just how incredible his vocal delivery is.
The setlist saw Ten Tonnes' blend his biggest hits, newest favourites, and even some older rarities (which saw the funny moment of lyric
reminders being needed from the audience). This provided the perfect foundation for what was a night of feel-good brilliance, guided by a musician at the top of his game
To finish I want to give a huge shoutout to Neev, who was due to support on the night but was unable due to travel issues. Support slots are vital for upcoming music, and Neev's music Is so deserving of being heard by the masses. If you do anything today, stream Ten Tonnes newest album and then check out Neev's music, you won't regret it
