Kaiser Chiefs 'Easy Eighth' Tour

Troxy, London - 20/04/24

Kaiser Chiefs:

Seeing an arena-filling band in an intimate setting is always a special feeling, but tonight's Kaiser Chiefs show at Troxy exceeded that. Lead singer Ricky Wilson has always felt like a mega-star, so putting him into a smaller venue that can only just about hold his charisma was bound to be a recipe for success. The setlist combined all the hits and extra bits that the 'Angry Mob' love, alongside a plethora of songs from Kaiser Chiefs' Easy Eighth Album, creating a night of chaotic indie-pop brilliance that will live long in the memory.

The quartet, made up of Ricky Wilson, Andrew White (Guitar), Simon Rix (Bass), Nick Baines (Keyboards) and Vijay Mistry (drums), took the stage whilst T's Raining Men' rang out over the PA system. From this instance it was clear The Chiefs were about to take us on a fun ride. Opening song 'Feeling Alright' continued this feeling, with what is arguably the best song from the new record going down a treat with the adoring Troxy audience. Wilson was as energetic as ever throughout the gig, jumping all over the stage sending the audience into a frenzy. He even took to the audience to perform 'Target Market', making his way through crowd and across the balcony, providing an even closer view in what was already close quarters.

The crowd were in fine voice all night, such is testament to the upbeat nature of Kaiser Chiefs' music, but as the set progressed the audience just got louder and louder. There was a sense that something was simmering in the audience, and a string of hits in the shape of 'Everyday I Love You Less and Less', 'Ruby', and 'I Predict a Riot' provided the spark to explode the night into a cacophony of voice of limbs. This eruption of energy never settled, carrying on the whole way to the last note of triumphant set closer 'Oh My God'

Kaiser Chiefs have been atop the industry for two decades now, and shows like tonight prove they aren't stepping down from the top anytime soon. They are a must-see band, no matter what size venue they play
